Designed in
London and Cornwall
Laura Watson, Saltwater’s chief designer,
has a design studio in Cornwall where the early-stages
design work is done before being developed later
at the studio in London.
Laura grew up in Cornwall before moving to London
firstly to study at the RCA then to begin work in
fashion before Saltwater was launched in 1998.
Now with two bases, the very different design environments
of Cornwall and London combine to give Saltwater
its distinct feel and outlook.
“There is something special about Cornwall
that brings out your creative side. It’s to
do with the incredible light, beautiful sea and
landscapes as well as being closer to the elements.
It has been wonderful to re-discover how culturally
rich it is in Cornwall, with not just great painters
and sculptors but also edgy magazines, interesting
organic food and clothing businesses, and lots of
other designers and makers.
London is a wonderfully vibrant city and is the
other half of my design world - the two places combined
provide me with all I need and I feel very lucky." |
